Her daughter Holly sat on the tiled white floor with her back to her. Mary sighed, “What are you doing Holly?” Holly turned, her face covered in blood the family cat lay limp in her hands, its entrails dangled sickeningly. Mary was stunned, she tried to breath but could not; her scream muted her hands and body frozen.

Vampires - Myth? or Plausible Reality?

ORIGIN is Released July 2013

Prior to writing Origin I was what I would describe as being a 'traditionalist Vampire fan', Bram Stoker being the benchmark, although I enjoyed Blade as a good action romp I was always left feeling a little unsatisfied.

For me as a romantic but factual person, basing my life on scientific theories and beliefs I was always slightly unable to commit to say 'Twilight', it just seemed all too male 'Dominated' and non-factual and non-scientific and shaky  But you have to commend the series itself for its blistering success.

But for me, I always wanted to delve into the possible plausible science behind the Vampire's abilities. And hence Origin was born, over a cup of coffee.

Scientifically Origin explains properly the abilities of Vampires, how they fly, why they live so long, why they are so resistant to death and why they need to feed on human blood. No scientific stone or explanation is left untouched.

The key for me, is it possible for vampires to exist? Yes! is it possible for the species to have the powers suggested? Yes!

That is when the shiver went down my spine, for all the hype and fantasy around Vampires the one thing I did not expect was that I would actually become more afraid of them as I wrote my book about them. An unexpected side effect of proving that such creatures could exist but probably actually do, possibly.

What would you do?

Are you ready for the ride of your life?

What would you do if you woke up and found your daughter for all her seclusion, odd behaviour and churlish teenage angst was actually a Vampire, would you turn her in, would you turn her out of your home?

ORIGIN© PREMISE

Origin©

Recent scientific theories suggest life first evolved on Mars and came to Earth by meteor or asteroid. These theories are explored in Origin© and what would happen if two sets of life evolved on Mars and came to Earth but separated by a billion years of evolution. This story brings those theories and situation to life in a young adult fantasy horror (light) concept.

Set on Mars in the year 2119, post independence for the twenty-eight domed cities, the story follows Jayne a bored Police Investigator in Mons City, Russell her amusing but capable subordinate. They are joined by Arnaut a true figure from central European History, Maria another true character from history and former Princess, Giure Grando a rumoured vampire of central Europe in the medieval period and Heidi a young scientist with help from David a Coroner of Mons City. ©

The story opens in Mons City with Jayne seeking a transfer to Earth to follow a more exciting career. A crashed ship on Olympus Mons (Largest Mountain in the Solar System) takes her on an evolutionary and exciting adventure where she will battle for the survival of the all humans on Mars against the second superior evolved humans; the vampires.©

This book explains what is the myth and the facts about vampires, explores the historical context of the vampire myths, and explains in scientific terms the ORIGIN of vampires. This scientific explanation details how vampires are created on Earth, born to ordinary parents, it is a genetic throwback genome to the second string of DNA from Mars and that Genome when active in a child and they reach sixteen years the mutated genome starts a metamorphosis turning the child into a vampire.©

Mars has developed into a self-governing world of remote cities housed under protective domes. The people of Mars have no religious faith, no historical ties with Earth, they came as scientists and built a world, free from the festering problems of Earth, and free from the protection of the knowledge and skills it requires to manage and kill vampires. Mars has reached a critical phase its population size is now sufficient to support a large population of Vampires

Richard Briers 1934 2013

Richard Briers
1934 - 2013

I was greatly saddened to hear of the departure of Richard Briers this afternoon. This actor had entertained me for years. From my earliest childhood memories right up to his death.

His acting was brilliant and cleverly delivered. He captured the hearts of the nation in 'The Good Life'. And his voice captured the minds of children with his story telling in the Television cartoon series 'Rhubarb & Custard'.

Even though he had won the hearts of young and old he continued to push himself and when he turned to the classics with Sir Richard Branagh it was clear that he was not only suited to the roles of King Lear, Malvolio etc. but that these roles had perhaps been waiting for him.

But for so many, it will be 'The Good Life' that he will be best remembered. His two fingers to the establishment and the system we ourselves also dislike;  in that wonderful television series is still very relevant to all of us today.

The character wanted out of the system and he achieved it 'just about'. Richard was brilliant, his famous whistle as he worked was adopted by many. Sometimes I myself find myself whistling his same tune on many an occasion.

For me there are few greater legends of TV and big screen. A brilliant performer that many young actors could learn a great deal.

Fair well Richard and safe journey

Exoplanets Are Common

Exoplanet's Are Common

The recent discovery of planets around red dwarf stars is an exciting prospect. Red dwarf stars represent nearly sixty percent of all stars in our galaxy and likewise in other galaxies too.

What does this mean for us on lonely planet Earth. Well for the man or woman on the street, it probably doesn't mean much. But for the scientific community and those working in the field of space exploration or discovery this is monumental.

But it also means satellite's like Kepler are in part redundant. Why? Kepler is designed to observe one hundred and fifty thousand stars. It watches and records any dip in light output. If the star flickers the chance of a planet in orbit is likely. The problem is, that with the discovery of planets around red dwarfs, the new statistics estimate that most stars now have planets, an average of 1.6 planets per star. So for Kepler its primary mission should surely change if it has the capability to do so. All efforts now need to be directed at the Goldilocks Zone around stars. This zone is considered the area of orbit for an exoplanet that would allow liquid water to exist on the surface. Too close and the water is vaporised or blown away by the solar wind from the host star. You will find an example of that with our very own Venus. Too far away and water freezes. Examples of which are Mars Saturn's Moon Enceladus and the Jupiter Moon of Europa.

Of course the Goldilocks Zone is not the be all and end all of habital places. As mentioned Europa and Enceladus are believed to contain huge warm global oceans. A primordial soup perhaps that will contain life. The Goldilocks Zone is a primary search criteria for searching for planets like Earth, (water on surface in liquid form).

So we come back to the question 'What does this mean to us'. Well I think we can safely assume that we are not unique and we are not alone. The more important questions is, will we be able to contact other life forms in other systems. Yes, but only in systems within fifty light years. And even that will take either generational star ships or incredibly powerful transmitters and a very patient person.

So tonight when you look at the night sky, and a small star catches your eye, you may well be looking at a planet that has someone looking right back at you wondering the same thing.

We just have to hope that science will find a method of star travel that does not take decades or more.

Sample from chapter 12

He hit the floor hard, unable to brake his fall as Joanna held his arms in a vice grip. His breath ejected from his lungs as his ribs compressed, she released one hand and placed it firmly on his jugular. She leaned forward, her mouth a few millimetres from his own. “concede?" She demanded. His eyes looked into hers, he was lost again. “concede” she demanded again. He just gazed into her eyes. She looked deeply into his; her lips drawn to his as his eyes penetrated her. Her eyes closed as their lips touched. She pushed down, hard, he pushed back, their mouths parted slightly, their tongues mingled and fought as their bodies had. She moved her hand from his jugular to his hair, grabbing him tightly

You missed the bus

You missed the bus

The sweet exotic pain of love
Unrequited and ignored
The sweet pleasure of rejection
Unresponded and unplayed

The exquisite pain of recognition
Ignored and deplored
The melancholy of realisation
Agony and damnation

The pain of love is perfect
Ignorant and fooled
The arrogance of complacency
Deserved and appalled

The fate has been delivered
Rejection is assured
The life within inches
Is miles from your shore
